Awesome

It is apparent God is moving and working within this youth group! David Platt, the speaker for the week, has been encouraging students to persue a personal relationship with Christ by diving into the word daily and challenging them to do more than go  through the motions of life. Students also heard from Compassion International about how blessed we are here in America compared to countries around the world.  They heard tesimonies of children who are and have grown up in poverty. But what is so miraculous is we have the opportunity to give them life through Christ by sponsoring a child. Sponsorship provides food, personal hygiene products, clothing, medical treatments, education & the chance to know Christ love. Many of our students stepped up to Gods calling to help out in this way and decided to sponsor children from around the world. It was an eye opening experience for many to see how lucky we are and how much we have, yet we're never satisfied with God alone. Were so thankful for the prayers and support of our church and for sharing your students with us!

A view from the students....

Laughing.  Hanging out, Worshipping, …and learning to relate to each other and more importantly, to God. This has been so good for our youth group.

We are closer than we have been before because we have bonded on the vans.
When we go anywhere, we have to get to know who is on our van and talk about random stuff.

We are really enjoying our new youth staff….the interns are crazy in their matching flag shirts…they look like a traveling patriotic singing group.

This is an awesome place to get away from distractions-our busyness, our friends, our schedules and focus on our relationship with God. The speaker David Platt has story for everything and relates the scripture to current day events. This has helped us to understand more clearly his messages. The music has rocked! Charlie Hall and the band have done a good job of choosing worship songs that have messages we can relate to.

Each day we also attend small groups. These groups are designed to mix us up, make us as uncomfortable as possible…all while share and rejoice in God’s goodness.

Because it is raining, all afternoon activities are cancelled. So, we are going shopping for a short time before worship tonight. Yeah! Although that seems like just a fluff activity, it will be another chance to get to know each other and find a bargain in the meantime. Ha!

Thanks to our church for allowing us to come and spend time together and grow spiritually and thanks to our new youth ministry leadership for bringing us on this trip!

PS Having a slick time!

Monday!

After traveling in 6 15-passenger vans for 5 hours, we made it to the beach!  We are staying in some super nice condos at the Phoenix 7.  When we went to eat, we found out that we got discounts at a lot of the local restaurants in Orange Beach.  I got a full shrimp meal usually priced at $15 for just $7.  Then we were off to the service.  Last night, the Charlie Hall Band kicked us off in service.  They did an amazing job at engaging the students in worship.  Our speaker, David Platt, opened up the week with a call to REspond.  We started out looking in the book of Hosea.  He paralleled Gomer’s adulterous relationship with Hosea to our adulterous relationship with God.  He explained how God continues to pour His love on us so that we will want to turn away from all the things that keep us from Him.  David said something that really struck me because I forget it often.  “It’s not what we do, but it’s what God did.”  God meets us where we are and loves us unconditionally.  It was a great kick off to the week.  I am super excited about what God has in store for us!  Please keep us in your prayers.  Pray for walls to be broken down and lives to be changed.  Overall, things are going great and the students are having a blast!

Love more.
